Cecilia & Amadou
Two continents, Two musicians, One voice
Internationally acclaimed singer Cecilia Le Poer Power and evocative Senegalese musician/singer Amadou Diagne have joined forces to create a musical duo like no other. Their songs weave and blend through changing landscapes, harmonising very naturally together and often using improvisation as a key ingredient - music truly alive in the moment. Cecilia and Amadou's music is conceived of and performed from the heart, neither performer afraid of bearing it all, musically and spiritually. We are witnessing two consummate professionals, performing at their peak.
Amadou and Cecilia should be regarded as a sumptuous melting pot of two voices, two languages, two continents, two hearts and minds, combining together to create an irresistible, emotive and unique musical feast like no other.
Amadou
Originally from Dakar in Senegal, Amadou is a musician who has the traditions of West Africa at his fingertips. His playing focuses much around his very evocative African harp (Kora) and voice, but he is also a percussionist and virtuoso guitarist. Amadou draws heavily on traditional music and rhythms and writes and performs in his native language, Wolof, which is the most widely spoken language in Senegal. Amadou’s music has attracted global radio airplay, including BBC Radio 3 Late Junction and BBC World Service.
Cecilia
Cecilia's roots are ecletic and can be found in Celtic folk and Jazz - there is no singer who sounds like her. Cecilia has performed as a soloist at some of the UK's leading venues, including The London Palladium, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Blackpool Opera House and at festivals across Europe, including Glastonbury. Cecilia recently toured with Russell Watson as his special guest and is a published songwriter, credits including BBC TV. Other notable collaborations include Moya Brennan (the Voice of Clannad) and Classical Brit winners Blake.
